anyone notice or already purchase their new redesign of the counterweight? It looks lower profile and more room for the fingers.
I was also wondering if the support plate was available separately. It would be nice not to have to purchase a whole other kit since I already have the original counterweight kit
Frankly I would be happy if it just works without the fidgety requirements of adjusting it every time weight on the camera changes
I saw this too - was wondering what the difference was.. Perhaps us beta testers should be given a reasonable upgrade path...
That's interesting. It seems like there is more clearance for your thumb. I wonder if it helps with locking or folding the Movi without having to remove the weight.
It would be nice if there is a product description that explains what has changed before plunking down $59 on the new version to find out. (Of course, it might be prudent for me to just put the $59 towards a new iPhone with the triple lens also)
So I went ahead and ordered the new version of the counterweight (even though I have the original version.) and I have to say--it is superior in every way. The main body of the thing is nylon-composite (unlike the original), so it is very, very light. The new design allows much more room for the hands and is easier to setup. I can even lock the unit with the counterweight mounted. They also included instructions unlike the original version. Now, I just need to pawn off, I mean sell the old version to someone that doesn't know any better. . <--Yes, I jest!
Looks way better. I’m gonna need to pick it up too! Thanks for the post. What phone is that 11 pro. Lol
It's my trusty iPhone 6s. The old counterweight system was maddening. (And destroyed the skin on my fingers tightening and loosening). There were too many options. (Not good if one has OCD). This new version was easier to dial in because of the different weight sizes provided.
I need the counterweight with the Moment Anamorphic and Wide. In "theory" one could slide the 6s to the right with the very light anamorphic.. but the lens will then see the motor and the Movi clamp will engage the volume and the lock buttons.
"clamp will engage the volume and the lock buttons" Take care you don't do this and then inadvertently call 911.
Thanks for posting @John Chu I was wondering how the new version worked out. By any chance, did you add a filter to that anamorphic? Curious about how carried away one can get with a setup and the new counterweight.
No filter on the anamorphic. I just looked at Moment's website and amazed their filter adapter setup is for 62mm filters! That seems really large for something like an iPhone. The counterweight kits come with an assortment of weights, but I have no idea with something that heavy. They should make small plastic bodied magnetic or snap on filters for the anamorphic.
It does get a bit bulky, and it creates a lot of curious looks from people I often get stopped and questioned about the setup.
I got stopped by security once- "We don't allow that kind of professional setup in here for filming." *sigh*. Their rules.
