What is the difference in the Movi Pro Red RCP cable & the Movi Pro Red start/stop? Any need to have both cables?
I'm having trouble hooking up the rcp cable. Do I need to make some settings on the epic or should it work by just plugging the cable?
You have to enable it in the menu. I found it by using the 'search' function on the RED and just type in RCP.
Starting with camera firmware 3.3.x, the RCP is available through the CTRL connector (RS232 port) on the rear of the camera body. The RCP is disabled by default, and must be enabled in the DSMC menu. Go to Menu > Settings > Setup > Communication. Select the Serial tab. Select REDLINK Command Protocol in the Serial Protocol drop-down menu. Once selected, REDLINK Command Protocol will be persistent across boots. Link: https://goo.gl/ByfQwd page 6
Hi Guys, We are trying to make a RCP cable in house, but not sure if we have the pinout right. hope one of you might be able to help!
Hi guys, I've got the MoVI Pro RED EPIC Start/Stop Cable and a RED EPIC W but I can't make it work. Did anyone else tried this setup make it work before? Cheers
I couldn't get the start/stop cable to work either. But the RCP cable worked and it also does start/stop so I recommend changing to that.
well it should start and stop recording. freefly doesn't sell the cable anymore as it is obsolete with the RCP cable. The RCP cable starts and stops recording and also allows you to control iso, frame rate, etc with the mimic.
On both of the Jetpack Expanders RED used a new start/stop protocol that is wired differently than previous generations. The MōVI Pro RED Start/Stop cable is wired for the protocol that is used on DSMC bodies, as well as the Base Expander for the W bodies. It won't work with the new protocol For the Jetpack Expanders, you'll need the RCP cable, which can command start/stop as well as other supported camera functions through the MIMIC or MōVI Controller.
