I am seriously considering the Alta right now and have a few questions. How good is the Alta is wind? I'm looking for an upgrade over Wookong that can handle high winds. My Wookong can handle 15 mph winds but starts getting a little dicey after that go up and down in altitude. Does anyone know what payload the alta can safely operate and land if it loses a motor? Has anyone tested this yet?
Paypal or Payload, Dave? I've not flown the ALTA in what I would consider really windy conditions -- I've been too busy avoiding flying it in really damp conditions! Andy.
Can anyone give me any more input on the questions I asked? How good is the Alta in heavier winds? What payload can the alta safely land if a motor fails? Can you really fly this rig in the rain? Can you use a female toad on the alta? I have all male's on my gimbals.
Hi Dave I found this blog and a prety good review for the Alta read it all it may not answer all of your questions but its pretty good http://www.horizonap.com/freefly-alta-review/
I've found that 15mph winds are difficult for Position hold but when I fly manually I can operate better. Height hold seems better, but turning that off, too, results in a smoother ride. I guess my skills are not too bad now. I flew her in pretty stiff winds 10-15 gusting to much more on my road trip and got super smooth footage off the MōVI almost all the time. Thankfully I've not tested this yet. Don't plan on it, either. But conventional wisdom is deduct 1/6 of the thrust and prepare for Mr. Toad's wild ride whist it starts yawing. I flew it in the snow, at high altitude (12,000 feet) and very cold conditions (10°F) and it performed perfectly. I have no reason to doubt Freefly's claim that it can operate in the rain too. No idea why that would make a difference. But everybody else I know does it the other way around.
