MIMIC represents a completely intuitive and organic way to connect you to a remote, moving camera. Sophisticated sensors track your movements and turn them into smooth, precise camera moves. Availability Date: Beta begins later this month (April 2015) ** The beta program will include the initial early hardware and firmware to operate MoVI’s. You can expect that the final hardware will be different and there may be various firmware releases during the beta period. Compatible with all MoVI's. Basic package will include: transmitter, receiver, handlebars and mounts for monitors and wireless. NOTE: The MōVI Controller will also feature MIMIC mode, allowing you to pan, tilt, and roll simply by moving the Controller itself. No extra hardware is required – a free MōVI Controller firmware update with the new MIMIC mode will be available simultaneously with the MIMIC Beta release. All the normal functionality of the MōVI Controller is also still present, including precision joystick control, three-axis lens control, and MōVI configuration and telemetry. Hugh, this is awesome! I can't wait to get mine. Will it be possible to exchange "Beta" MIMICs for final production hardware (assuming better fit and finish and/or hardware)?
We were shooting skateboarders high-speed with our FS7 yesterday and I couldn't stop thinking, "Man, what an awesome application for the MIMIC!" Looking forward to receiving ours so we can play... err... test!
Question - how is FF mounting the SmallHD to the Paralinx RX? Seems too thin to be using V-mounts. Will want this config for the MIMIC.
question, when it said compatible with all Movi units. does it require any other additional hardware upgrades to the existing Movi? or just purchase the Mimic and it will connect to the Movi automatically? we bought M10 at very early date... please advise... thank you albert
Was chatting with FF today about a separate topic, and asked them how they did this mount - velcro dual lock! Too simple. Nice.
I had the same question. If we get the beta unit, will we get the final version when it's released, or will there be an additional cost ? Also, will it work with an early M10 or is there an upgrade needed there ?
Hi All...With regards to questions about the MIMIC Beta and the subsequent production product. We are still working out the details but they will be two distinct products and there will be a cost associated with purchasing the production version. We do appreciate those that are chosing to take advantage of the early beta version and we are still working on the production package details. Nils - It will work with any MoVI as long as you have the updated firmware once it is released.
Thanks for the clarification Denise. Do you imagine there'll be an upgrade opportunity (understand it won't be free)?
At the moment I don't have enough info on the final production version to know if a formal upgrade process would be possible but I promise to provide more info as soon as we have it!
Hi Senthil...The MoVI Controller firmware that contains the MIMIC functionality has not yet been released. As soon as I have an availability date, it will be posted. Cheers, Denise
Oh... i thought it was already publicly available. Guess we can only wait at this point. Thanks for the correction.
And it looks the shippings of MIMIC beta program is also postponed I got an e-mail from Freefly saying that they are making the latest adjustments on the firmware so they need a few weeks more. I think, the way MIMIC is used is far more comfortable and light then using Movi Controller as MIMIC hardware. The cost of the MIMIc hardware is low so I would recommend professional guys to buy one to make the DPs and directors to try on the sets. They will love it. I'm not sure if it is going to work perfectly for aerial shots, but for hand held chasing shots it's just revolutionary.
