I've always used a jig to build model airplane wings. Keeps everything strait. Has anyone ever thought of using a HexaJig or OctoJig to keep all the motors, booms, and center-section aligned? I've used several methods to get the Cinestar strait from marking the booms to using a level and of course the old eyeball method. If we could take the props off and put a Plexiglass jig over all the motor shafts and bolt it down, then we could tighten everything up...motor mounts, booms, center-section, etc to the HexaJig. Yes, I've become a bit obsessed with balancing the motor, frame, batteries, and camera gimbal. But this thing sure flies better when everything is strait. So...what do you think? Also, for Tabb, what is the exact distance - center to center - between motor shafts on a Cinestar Hexa? I ask because mine vary by an 1/8th inch or so...that's why I need a jig. Jim
Joe Azzarellie's gauge seems to work on the same principle but be more portable. See message #18 on this thread. http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/how-to-align-the-motors.312/ Andy.
Yes Andy, same basic idea. The HexaJig would get "all the motors" to zero degrees then adjust the booms and center section to the motors. I would start by loosening all the frame and motor mount bolts and then tighten everything down once in the jig. I'll play with the idea. Oh, any consensus on how far between motor shafts measuring across the center...mine is 32 & 3/4 inches. jim ps. I've got time to kill...It's very rainy today...
