Cs 8, Mk stack M5, GH4 with 12-35. Had problems getting the same stable result with 3.08 as 3.07. Mostly tilt problems now. The expert settings for tilt, pan roll is 8, rather low and well on the safe side? Set tilt at 24, roll 18 and pan at 14, now out for testing Anyone else care to share their thoughts on the ¨expert settings¨ ?
Did you find a solution Janne? Also I have faced tilt stability problems with the new 3.08 FW and M5 / CS-8
After fiddling around with the expert settings everything now works very well ideed This really is one awesome tool now, can it get even better I doubt it! And dont forget to tighten every screw on the M5, that too makes a differense. Stiffnes, Pan 97, roll 76, tilt 25. Expert hold, tilt 22, roll 14, pan 10. Any reason why the order of the settings is different in the two menues? Gyrofilter 2, Output filter 3. The filters I think is are bit rough. Next uppdate could we please have 2,0 2,1....? Any of my settings you think are a bit off Tabb?
Don't know if you meant Janne or me Tabb, but here are my full settings. I know M5 is capable of much better footage than what I´ve seen since the firmware update. My expert settings are stock. Should I also experiment with them? Thanks Tuukka
Dont remember the Expert stock settings now, but try the numbers i mention above. They made big differense in my case. Having the Gyro and Output filter set at 3,4 or 5 makes a huge differense on how high you can set the stiffnes without having vibrations in the gimbal!! With my gimbal, a setting of 3 or (maybe 2) lets me set the stiffness much higher than if the Gyro and Output filter is set to 4 or 5.
Have you tried Autotune with the new firmware? I did it with my 5D Mark III and it came out like magic. The settings were quite a bit different than what I thought they "should" be.
From the 3.08 Release Notes in the 3.08 firmware package: Hold Strength Settings: These values control how strongly each axis follows and holds the commanded position. A higher Hold Strength allows faster panning and tilting in Dual Operator and Majestic Mode, but may cause overshoot with heavier cameras. A lower Hold Strength provides additional smoothing. (See Pan/Tilt Joystick Smoothing and Majestic Pan/Tilt Smoothing for other ways to adjust smoothing on each axis.) The default value (8) works well for a large range of cameras. I have had good results by leaving hold strengths at 8 with most setups. I have increased those when needed with a prototype M15 and Alexa M.
Did try the autotune first thing after upgrading the firmware. The stiffness values were lower than what I got with manual tuning and the performance was not good at all. Unfortunately.
Hmmm. How rigidly is the camera connected to the M5 -- is there any "play" at all? I don't think there have been any problems where autotune got results that were that bad unless there was some kind of looseness in the mechanical connection. Andy.
Hi Andy The camera connection to the M5 is very rigid. Just re-checked it last night. There are others as well with less than perfect results with autotune, at least when the gimbal is mounted into a multicopter. For example Janne Hoglund from Helikopterbild.se. There is another thread here about this specific problem where my copter and camera/gimbal specs are carefully documented along with two videos: http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/stability-problems-with-m5-and-cinestar-8.5241/ Thanks, Tuukka
Hi Tuuka: Yeah, that is really puzzling. As Ozkan said on the other thread, it sounds like you need technical support from Freefly directly. It's a national holiday/long weekend here in the States, so you might not get a response until they're back in the office on Tuesday. Andy.
Manual tuning now working so very well indeed, M5 performs like no other. It even gives me usable fotage even in very high winds. Autotuning on the other hand at 75 % gives me tilt and roll stiffnes about 20 % to low. Yes these values do somehow work. But the pan stiffness is set so high it gives small vibrations, not usable.
I noticed a similar thing, auto tune gives a bit high pan stifness numbers than I used to have on M5.
Hi Janne, Are you no longer using the expert settings ? "Stiffnes, Pan 97, roll 76, tilt 25. Expert hold, tilt 22, roll 14, pan 10. Gyrofilter 2, Output filter 3." I am struggling to achieve a half decent stable footage and was thinking about following what you have done, going through the expert menu. Any help, recommendations is much appreciate it. Cheers
hello, This weekend I've been recording some videos about a race with MOVI M10. Normally MOVI don't give me any problems, but when I do it while I am running, there is a shake in the recording. The balance of the 3 axes was right, and then I did the autotune with the app. Why causes MOVI M10 gives me this kind of problem? pass: 1313
Running smooth is not an easy task, running smooth with a gimbal in your hands is even harder :-( And this kind of shaking i do think is hard for any gimbal to absorb.
