    I'd recommend you switch over to clover-leaf antenna such as the Bluebeam ones. Night and day different for me -- and, as you say, keep the Tx cloverleaf away from the carbon fiber.

    With those whips, the sidelobes (the shape of the transmitter's power as it radiates outwards-- like a donut around the antenna when it's pointing upwards), is at 90 degrees to the whip -- so for the one on the landing gear the donut is tilted over 90 degrees and is radiating up into space, forwards and backwards, and down in a line parallel with the landing gear. Best orientation for the whips is both vertical.
