I'll be firing up my new X8 coaxial build shortly and I'd like to get as much feedback as possible for the MK mixer settings. I'll be using the KDE 4014 motors with 18 inch props on top and bottom.

I’m using a mixer with 64 up and 67 down. Others are using a higher setting for the lower props, but this seems to work for me.

Copy/paste this into a text file and save it as [filename].mkm then import it to MKTOOL.

Oh, and your motors are assumed to be numbered this way. Standing BEHIND the copter looking towards the front...

    ** UPPER motors
    top left motor #1-clockwise
    bottom right #2 - clockwise
    top right #3 - counterclockwise
    bottom left #4 - counterclockwise

    ** LOWER motors
    top left #5 - counterclockwise
    bottom right #6 - counterclockwise
top right #7 - clock wise
bottom left #8 - clock wise

    top
    1_____3

    4_____2

    Bottom
    5_____7

    8_____6

Gotcha, any other MK settings you change? PID? etc?

Question about installing props. I'll be following the mounting listed below where motor 1 and 5 are on the same boom. Does each motor still get the same coorsponding prop? For example if you look at the APC slow fly props the even props have the letter "p" on them where the leading edge and trailing edge is reserved compared to the odd props. Will motors 1 and 5 still have the same leading and trailing edge prop as they do in a flat 8? Will all the front motors get the same exact prop or does all the top motors get one prop and all the bottom get the other pattern?

A few things to remember about props on a X8 copter...
    1. the props are all top-side-up, even though the lower motors are upside-down. this one gets me all the time. It’s best to physically turn the copter upside-down to put on the lower props, but then everything is backwards.
    2. there are different ways of doing the mixer...if you’re using the example above, the CW spinning props need to be on motors 1, 2, 7, & 8, the the CCW spinning props need to be on motors 3, 4, 5 & 6.
    3. some props (fox supreme lites) do not fit properly on the lower motors. they actually need a spacer to get proper distance from the motor bell, but make sure the spacer provides a solid, wide base for the prop, otherwise it won’t sit level.

So you are saying that you put the bottom props on upside down? Does the same prop get the same motor like a flat 8? Meaning leading/trailing edge?

Well, yes, sort of. The motor’s upside-down, and so is the prop, so that makes the prop right-side up (negative*negative=positive).
And I’m not sure what you’re asking about the “same motor”. The motors are all numbered in the diagram above. Each motor should be connected to the appropriate BL.

Oh, right, and there’s one more thing. Although the lower motors are upside-down, they should be turning CW or CCW based on how they look from above the copter, so I think that is the reverse of how they look when the copter’s upside-down.

Are we all confused yet? o_O

Look at the following picture below what I am considering to be a clockwise prop and a counterclock wise prop.

    props.jpg

From what I understand anywhere it says CW in the picture below for motors 1, 2, 7, and 8 get a "clockwise prop" and the motors labeled CCW below get what I call a counterclock wise prop above? I believe thats what I am understanding. And then also all the bottom motors get put on with the top side facing up. Correct?

One last question, the tiger props fit the KDE motors without spacers correct?

A few days ago I switched my flat 8 to an X8 using the exact same diagram/setup. If you can see all 8 T-Motor logos when looking down on the copter it's good to go (assuming the motors are spinning as per the same digram). I left my PID's the same and it flies noticeably better.

    Guys stupid question

For the motors on the bottom that are designed to spin counter clockwise like 5 and 6 should they be wired to spin so that the motor spins counterclock wise in its normal configuration with the shaft on the top and motor plate on the bottom? In other words if you use motors 1 and 5 for example. Should they both be spinning clockwise if I'm looking straight down on both props? Or do you need to wire the bottom motor so that its spinning clockwise so that its actually spinning counter clockwise when looking down at the motor upside down?
