Uppgrading to an 3x gimbal on a C8.
Doing mostly stills, but more and more clienst want moving pics :)
Do I need a Radian on Pan?
The ones on roll and tilt is no question about, Thanks Tabb!
    But Radian on the pan?
    Tell me why.
And yes this is a two man system.
Regards from cold Sweden, -6C this morning :-(

It's really nice to be able to rotate the copter without having the cam op have to compensate for the motion... Biggest selling feature for me!

How would you control panning on the 3-Axis?
To answer my own question, perhaps, you could drive the pan servo from the Aux channel of the roll Radian on a separate RC channel? Just curious....

He said it was a 2 man system so wouldn't the second op control pan? ;)

Hi Josh: Yes I agree, but I wondered from the electronic point of view, if Janne is only using Radians on roll and tilt, how would pan be controlled?

    Hi Janne,

Radian on Pan changes the whole way that 2 man team operates. From the second the camera operator turns on the stabilization he has complete control of the gimbal without the pilot influencing his framing at all. I think this aspect is really important to give the camera operator the creative freedom he/she needs to create amazing shots. I know that if I suggested to take away pan stabilization from Hugh when we are operating he would probably kick me in the knee!

Certainly you can add it later if you want to also!

Andy- if he did not use Radian on pan he could simply drive the pan from one of the receiver channels in 'open loop' mode. Where stick position on the transmitter would command a pan speed.

    Best,

    Tabb

True. I was suggesting the same but hinting at using a Radian Aux port as the means for getting signal to the pan servo. It's one of those "Wow, now that's clever" add-on features that JohnC deserves full credit for.

I would also be killed if I took away pan stabilization from my op.

    Perfect Question, many thanks...!!! :)

Well, for me and my Cam op, Pan Axis is just perfect but, it is something annoying in the management of 3rd axis, in fact, the first position on the switch should lock the nacelle and not let it free...
Why, well simply because we would like to use again the POI function of Wookong-M. For those not familiar with this feature, you should know that it's necessary for your gimbal to be locked with the rest of the unit, the expliquation of DJI:
Here is a demonstration of "Point of Interest" with this video.
So with a free rotate gimbal it's impossible to play with this spectacular function...!!!

    Best.

I have to lock the gimbal when I do single op flights. Just use zip ties or velcro straps to lock it to Boom 5 (on a CS8 that is) then unplug the pan servo...

Nice POI feature, Marc. I could see it having its uses just to orbit around something on the ground as well.

The better way i think, is to have the "Pan lock" with power turned on, on servo. It was possible with the old MK card., Radians are locked too, on the roll and tilt axis when they are in use, i think it's possible to have the same choice with Pan radian. Locking the gimbal with some straps or zip ties can bring down vibrations in it. I' have tried your solution Josh and have sometimes tremors in the video...:(.
I don' t know what Tabb think about it, may be a firmware solution.
    Best.
    Marc.
