In "hand-held" mode and "airborne" mode, the footage looks jerky. I've dialed the gain up until the MOVI shutters and then backed off until it stopped. When the aircraft moves in any direction, there's a bit of a jerk... Shouldn't it be smooth?

How do I fix this error?

Can you post a video for us to help diagnose?

    Thanks

It could also be how it’s mounted to the copter. Is this on a Cinestar? If so, tell us how the MōVI is mounted to the copter (and how your vibration isolators are configured). It could be that they’re configured wrong.

Oh, and you are required to use your full first and last name on this forum...

    Tabb,

I just reviewed the stiffness again and realized that I didn't "WRITE" them. They were low again... Sorry about that mate. I'm an Apple guy and had to bring the MacBook Pro out. I thought that I had already done that.

    Thank you for your time,

    Chad
P.S. Would love to learn more about the entire system and help in the team element at some point!

I have been having some trouble, but given Chad's example above, then my situation is a case of the stiffness settings being too high?

Chris what are your gain settings and what mix of vibration O rings are you using?

Chris, at least one of the clips in that video (bridge at 0:24) shows a vertical descent at a pretty decent rate of speed. I believe you know that the flat 8 configuration is prone to pretty severe turbulence effects when descending through its own prop wash. I don’t know if even the mighty MōVI can fix that problem.

It might be helpful to hard-mount a GoPro to the copter somewhere to watch the gimbal and see whether you notice something amiss. And also to get a sense of whether the copter itself may be oscillating in some way as to contribute to your difficulties. The GoPro footage should be relatively stable. If not, then you should look at balancing your props and motors.

I’m pretty sure given your level of experience that none of this is news to you. I’m mostly writing this for the benefit of others reading this thread. ;)

Hi Steve, is the X8 much better option here?
Pros and Cons with x8 vs a std flat 8?
    Regards.

Much debate about flat vs. coax, but I find that my X8 will descend at a pretty good clip with far less fluttering. It’s not completely immune, but it’s hardly noticeable. That said, there are a number of other variables at play here. For example, my X8 has CF props vs. the APC MR (nylon) props on my flat 8, which could contribute to its smoother ride.

    Thanks Steve.
Light stiff and very very well balanced carbon props is one very important thing in getting smooth flights I think!

    G'Day Gary,
All blue o-rings, and with the D800+28mm f/2.8+ND Filter, last flight the stiffness settings were Pan = 122, Roll = 43, Tilt = 17

Gain on tilt looks low. When you do the gain setting are you doing it while suspending the copter?

I have a rig that supports the copter by four booms, and tune the gimbal suspended from the copter, are you achieving tilt settings closer to the roll values?

Here is what I am seeing in the application when tuning, as well as a couple of photos with the camera set up and balancing.

I have also tried taping down the side door on the camera and the buckles to stop them moving as well, but the results don't seem to change.

hmm ... as an experiment, I put the 85mm PC/E lens on the camera and tilt stiffness values went up to 31 with no issue ...

Similar to my experience. 24mm was low. Throw on a 16-35mm and jumped up just fine.
