Shane perhaps a better course of action would be to either use Come Home mode or Carefree if you have it installed. Depending on background clutter would likely have a more reliable result.
FYI, I posted some results I got from a 400m+ flight using the logs from my Graupner mx20 that show some interesting TX/RX data WRT how the links held up on this flight. See here: http://forum.freeflysystems.com/ind...-radios-to-record-flight-logs.843/#post-22191
How do you keep your cool and orientation when the copter is a long distance from you.... For LOS flying only.... here is a simple solution for you....... (mode 2 RC radio config is assumed here): Push your right stick to the left.... If the MR moves left, then pull that stick straight back to bring it closer to you. If it moves to the right, you need to push the stick forward to bring the MR back towards you. If it is hard to tell if it is moving left or right, just give it a bit of yaw and try above all over again.
If LOS is still possible with no obstructions between the operators and the kopter a spotter with a good pair of binoculars can come in pretty handy, I think it should be a standard piece go gear to have near just in case
Valid point........ unfortunately, the spotter I was stuck with didn't know port from starboard nor clockwise from counterclockwise....... so I had to make due on my own on a 550 yard fairway....
This is also a manouver that you can practice with a flight sim like AeroSimRC -- the "Waggle to Orientate." It can save your bird if you lose FPV too. Andy.
Another thing which I've found useful (and is counter to one's instincts...or at least mine) is to ascend to a higher altitude when you get disoriented. My instinct used to be to ease off on the gas, but I've found there are more obstacles at lower altitudes than higher ones (ask me how I know that). And in the process of ascending, you can often determine orientation at the same time. It has worked for me several times at more than a 200+ meters away. For me, the wiggle trick is somewhat less effective.
Andy (and I) use the SmartOSD, which integrates nicely with the MK stack. http://smart-electronics.eu/index.php/en/smart-osd
Thank you kindly... are you using the OSD with Cinemizers as well? If so, your probably able to read a book in a car on a mountain road and not puke...
I split the signal from my Iftron video RX into a SmallHD DP6 and the Cinemizers. I often let my client or a bystander use the Cinemizers unless I'm using them to do precise framing. And the SmartOSD is overlaid up in the copter, so both of them show that image. But I get carsick trying to read. Especially when I'm driving.
Hi Steve and any one else that can comment how do you guys compare the smart OSD for MK, Vs the Iftron one liner OSD thanks
The Smart OSD appears to be far superior, both in terms of what information is available, the way it is presented, and the flexibility to have different "pages" of heads up information that are selectable from the ground (using an RC channel). Andy.
