What lenses are people using to shoot stills or video with their GH3? Thanks Fred Pflaum Lake George NY
12-35/2.8 OIS works nicely for me. A little heavier than some of the wide angle-only options, but the IQ is nice, and the OIS works.
This lens, is by far the best lens for shooting from a GH3 on a CS8, I was blown away by the quality of the footage as far as stability and clarity was amazing. And for 150$ it kicks ass all around. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/682980-REG/Panasonic_Lumix_G_Vario_14_42mm.html
I have used that too with GH3 a lot, but found out that moire problem is awful with 14-42. 12-35 works much better for me with GH3. Also 12-35 is really nice lens with BMPCC. I also like Panasonic 7-14/4 really much, especially with bmpcc, very low distortions at 9mm.
I'm looking at the 7-14, too, as I'd like to go wider than I can with the 24mm equivalent FOV of the 12-35. Especially for stills.
I tested it and results were interesting. It was a creating bit like a dream effect with bmpcc if shooting in sunny high contrast conditions, when need to add a lot contrast in post. I sort of liked it but maybe not for use in serious work Not any moire in my tests, but bmpcc is not too sensitive for moire with any of my lenses.
The BMPCC use a very flat profile doesn't it? Was that causing the dream like effect, I wonder? Andy.
I just posted my first impressions of the Panny 7-14 on another thread: http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/panasonic-7-14mm-4-first-impressions.2582/
Hey guys I just received my GH3, I am trying to get it to give me a live feed while recording, using the iftrotech mondo 5.8 TX and a yellow jacket RX and a freefly hdmi converter. I cant get the live view to work what are you guys doing in order to get the live feed to work. I had the same problem a week or two ago when I was able to use one on a job and never got a fix, had to use a ccd camera pointed the same direction as the gh3, not optimal at all, Please any advice helps! I know it can do it I just do not know how to get it working while the camera is recording, playback works but it does not show the image while recording. When I do plug the hdmi cable in it does say tv mode or something like that but nothing comes through on my fpv screen. I know the hdmi converter works as well as the hdmi cable bc it worked fine on the 7D.
Here is another thread where it looks like the hdmi out does work. I am not familiar with the Panasonic cameras but I'm sure others have been going the same route. Steve? http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/gh3-av-output.901/#post-12692
GH3 HDMI out into the FreeFly HDMI Converter works fine for me. Was just using it today. No idea what Nathan's running in to.
The only issue we have run against, but only applies to the GH2 is that I only get 24P when outputting to the HDMI. This is something I found out that they resolved with the GH3 and you can get 60P. This is my only headache I would prefear to shoot 60 frames to make warp stabilizing better in post especially when doing long shots. Although having said that after testing it out I do not get too many warp artifacts. The copter almost flies these as if there ins't a camera on them. Cant wait to see my heavy take this up and fly like bat out of hell. Who needs RED's
