I modified the RR fingerwheel to fit the right handle. It fits like a glove and sits in the perfect position. Now I can wrangle my own focus! Also mounted the RR motor to one of the height adjustment arms so it counterbalances the motor and eliminates the need for a baseplate and rods. Next I'm going to try to strip the hard rubber cover off my RR motor cable to make it work less like a stick and more like a cable... Anyone else brave a mod or two yet?
Stripped the hard rubber off the RR motor cable - makes all the difference in the world (obviously). The cable inside is wrapped like braided stainless and looks pretty durable. Hopefully I won't have any ground or interference issues. We shall see....
That sounds pretty cool, thanks for sharing - do you have an image of your setup (particularely the RR motor mount)? Can´t do any mods yet, need to wait quite a while for my M10 to arrive.
I also made that baseplate out of a Pico Dolly and RR parts. It's tiny and weighs nearly nothing. Not sure I even need it now though with the motor mount where it is. Probably good to have in a pinch I suppose. Stripping that motor cable worked brilliantly. I've done everything I can to cause interference and nothing effects it. Only thing stripping it seems to have done is make it more useful.
Sadly the original thumbwheel mount is about 1/4" too thick/small. Took some careful trimming with a Dremel to make it fit (and you have to cut the rubber hand grips and notch that round carbon plate at the top obviously). That said, totally worth it. BTW, if you do this 2 things; be careful not to breathe in any carbon or aluminum dust while Dremeling and don't feel bad about cutting up the rubber grips; they're easy to replace IPO BMX grips that cost about $8.
I'm running with a similar setup, but using the universal thumb wheel which attaches nicely to the MOVI. Does anyone know where to buy or have made more flexible LEMO cables to replace the Red Rock Micro ones? I'd ideally like something as flexible as the ultra thin HDMI cables.
The accessory you need is the "Collins Clamp". This plus thumbwheel. http://m.bhphotovideo.com/mobile/detail?R=970769_REG&
