So I thought I would start a new thread to discuss the best options to complement the main unit. That is to say stedicam arms, easy rigs, car mounts, jib arms etc etc. I am interested in what people plan on using their MoVI alongside, what specific products you foresee working particularly well and I guess also when more MoVI's make it out into the world what people are using as extra support and their opinions on that. I think the MoVI is exceptionally exciting for the complex shots that it can achieve, going through the windows in the Burtons Snowboard video for example. But I think where it is really exciting is how it can save a lot of time in the 'normal' day to day shots, for example slider shots, and using the MoVI as remote heads on jib arms etc. It will however be super useful if and when people try these different options to suggest any specific products that do or do not work well in conjunction with the MoVI. I'm working on an accessory that will pair nicely with the MōVI. I will announce it here when it's ready...
We just ordered a Movi 10 to use filming horses from walking through galloping. Since I am the producer, not the camera op, and I am responsible for accessorizing this rig, what would be the best device to control pan and tilt and focus wirelessly? Is it one of the remote units used for flying, like the Graupner MX-10? I know the Redrock micro remote wireless can be used for focus, but I believe I need something else for the pan and tilt. We are using a Sony FS-700 with various lenses. The Odyssey Q7 will be on the rig as soon as we can get it. Sorry to be so uniformed but we were about to buy a steadicam, and then we saw this. Grant
Just saw in the FAQ videos that the rig comes with the transmitter for pan and tilt. Should read more.... Grant
This is directed to those of you who are lucky enough to have already received their Movi's. I've been asking some questions of Freefly for ages, and for whatever reason they seem reluctant to respond. So I'm hoping someone out there can assist. What actually came with the unit? Was it in a carry case of some description or just a cardboard box? What training aids regarding set up were supplied? Is there anything that specifies what the warranty is? Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Garry
Garry - there is a thread started by Adam, guy at Quadrocopter who has received his unit and this includes a picture of what is included. In essence its the unit, 2 batteries and a Spektrum DX7 transmitter that is apparently set up ready to go straight out of the box. With regards to a case it comes only in a pre cut laser foam lining which some have suggested they may just use within a peli but I think will have to make the dimensions work. With regards to the last two questions I am afraid I can't help!! Cheers, Phil
It was smart choosing the MōVI over a steadicam. The steadicam takes years to master and doesn't like windy conditions.
As usual Phil, you're the one replying, for which I say thanks. You'd like to think that the laser cut foam was made at a size that would fit a specific size of pelican case. But somehow I doubt it. I'll check out the thread. No news on when you'll be getting your M10?? Cheers Garry
Haha, yeah well I guess I'm on the forums a fair bit, and I like the sense of community and I think at times it difficult getting answers from freefly direct, I presume because they are busy as hell making MoVI's so the forums come into their own in that respect. Plus maybe you'll fly me out to Australia someday for a job I think someone mentioned how it didn't really fit any specific case, the exact dimensions were given by someone so you could work it out I guess. I might look at ow much getting a custom foam would be, start selling them to you folks and make a fortune Phil
Garry here is the thread post 7 of the photo of the box they arrived in and shortly after the discussion of the pelican case http://forum.freeflysystems.com/ind...the-first-small-batch-of-m10-recipients.1973/
One area where I was thinking as well seems slightly unknown is that of charging the lipos, am I naively assuming it will come with the ability to be able to charge the lipos that are being supplied,I just didn't see anything obviously resembling a charger intake picture that Adam kind,y gave us....
Yep I agree the forum is a good means of sharing information, and also that FR are obviously seriously busy. But a little bit of time every few days for a quick answer isn't too much to ask. I'm sure you'd enjoy a trip to Oz for a job. I'll keep it in mind. I checked the dimensions of the foam insert and nothing comes close with Pelican or Storm. I've had some custom cut over here and get great results, so I'll be waiting till I get it then make a decision on size etc. Ideally I'm going to try and get the monitors, transmitter etc in the same case, which probably means getting a pretty deep box and having some items positioned vertically to maximise surface area. Thats my plan anyway. Cheers Garry
Thanks Scott. The link to Secraft who make the rc controller platforms is pretty good, but as yet I haven't been able to find one that has a bracket to mount the 7" monitor on as well. I'm sure they'll be available, somewhere, but finding them is tough. Maybe a trip to a specialist rc hobbyist shop is required. Still no response from FF on the questions about warranty or training aids that come with the Movi's though. Thanks again Scott. Cheers Garry
Hi Phil. there are a couple of empty holes in the custom cut foam which may be where the chargers were housed. cheers Garry
Hello Garry, There is a discussion on the accessory mounting in the thread Scott Stemm bumped over. Greetings, Adam
Guys, before you're hit with outrageously priced items such as a proper thin HDMI cable IDEAL for these gimbals, go over to Amazon and purchase this ultra thin 2.5 ft HDMI cable $15, nothing will work better for this application, the wire is as thin and flexible as the wire on a set of headphones. I use them and it's like the cable isn'ts there at all with no limiting interference.
