I'm finally going to use my FreeflyHDMI convertor with the GH3, as I never needed it with the 5DM3 or CX760V. I wired it up, and it works fine, but it gets super hot. I'm running it on a clean 5V (same BEC as my Radians), and after 1-2 minutes it's so hot it's difficult to touch. I've set the HDMI output on the GH3 to 480P, but I'm not sure that makes a difference. Anything else I should look at? Or does this thing just run really hot? Thanks! Steve
Try 1080 on the output. I remember seeing a posting that I can't find and memory was that it likes 1080i/p for input.

1080 60p will cause the converter to run the hottest, any other setting will keep it much cooler! Tabb
Steve, just curious... your GH3 have a digital AV out correct? Why'd you switch over to the HDMI converter? I ask because I want your GH3 and I'm using a the 5D's AV out
The interwebs told me (and the user manual seems to agree) that the digital A/V out (composite video) is only for actual playback of video, not for live view. HDMI is your only option for live out (and, of course, FPV). I'd love to be proven wrong. This is not the case for the 5D Mark III, for which I do use the video out (and not HDMI) for live view. Same with the CX760V.
I hope you're wrong about the AV out However, I'll probably need to make the jump to the HDMI converter sooner or later --

BTW, I took Tabb’s advice and switched the GH3’s HDMI output to 1080i (interlaced) mode, and the converter is now running much cooler. This, of course, has no effect on the quality of the video actually being recorded on the SD card.
Do you mean you want to monitor the camera whilst taking stills? That's a little tricky, as the viewfinder will black out every time the camera takes a still. And of course the camera has to be set to live view. But the HDMI doesn't care. You just have to be careful that your ground station doesn't "blue screen" when it loses the video transmission.
My Nikon goes dark for about 3 1/2 seconds for still during live view. Also means that the trigger time is pretty slow if you want to see the view as it is triggering. Total 4 seconds to be safe. I can trigger faster but then have total lack of view while it is capturing images. Better to add a second FPV camera on the gimbal or top of the lens. Jeff had a custom adapter for his 5D that attached an FPV camera to the standard eye viewing port.
