Very nice job. I'm excited to see it in the air. Too bad that pan motor can't be closer to the legs. I would be worried about that aluminum shaft bending though.
Thanks Tim you are right about that. Just wanted to see how the whole thing fits together. Give me a few hours and I will have it rearranged. Bill
Hi Bill, I was watching the picture of the heavy octo and in the pan they use the same motor not above or below, but yes inside, between the central plates, you would have to disassemble and remove this part and adapt the motor. Gustavo.
Where did you see that Gustavo? you have a link? Thanks Bill PS Wait a minute there's nor oom inside the plates>
Ok Found it thanks Gustavo. Di you noticed that the motors are not outrunners? Ok I see what the did They made the center plates bigger to accomodate the motor. The way it is now you can only fit a 30mm motor between the tubes. Back to the drawing board, no problem. I'll get it done. With 70mm spacing to put the new motor in. Bill
Gustavo just for you bro. Did it. I had to make a bigger plate so I can fit up to 70mm motors. I just assembled it for dry fit. Tomorrow I will refine it. Thanks for the tip. Bill
Thanks Josh, I use a band saw and a dremmel tool with a fine cut wheel then a oscilating drum sander. Messy stuff Bill
That was the prototype. I'm getting all the parts together for the machine shop I will let you know. This is how it fits on the cinestar vibration plate..(darn I have no life)
hehehehe. What can I say yes my Kitchen is my workshop right now, My real workroom is a mess besides the kitchen table is bigger. Bill
I think you could sell a brushless gimbal conversion kit! Very cool and well done. Out of interest, is it the direct drive that makes the real improvement or that it's not using servo motors?
the direct drive has no slop or gear backlash that's the difference and is very responsive. But it has no torque, so if the camera is out of balance it wont work. Bill
Hi Bill, i have just buyed a cs8 but i was waiting to buy a guimbal. Thanks for your time and for share your project. I'm following you from spain very interested and excited to see in the air. Thanks a lot. Jordi
Almost complete just a bit longer. Hey you guys don't mind if I post pictures as I go along, do you? Thanks Bill
The adj. tilt bar arrived today from QC. Got it installed and works awesome. I had to take it all apart though, I couldn't balance it on the cinestar plate. The horizontal tubes were too short. So, I changed the tubes and is balanced. When I install the FPV gear and batteries I would have to balance it again. Balance, balance, balance, that's the way to a perfect direct drive gimbal. Thanks Bill
