eFuel Power for the Hyperion 720iDuo3

    OK I just charged 4 batteries on the same board at the same time. I charged them at 8 amp setting on the Duo 3 charger which should be giving 2 amps of charge to each battery. The voltage is the same on all 4 batteries but the individual cells are just a little different. How close should they be if I run a pair at the same time on a flight? Here's what I'm getting for each cell
    QC 6200 #1 - 4.18

    Dave what was the Cell Gap value on the Hyperion screen when you got done?

    Less than 0.1 of a volt.

    Dave is that a typo? .1 would be concerning. I am seeing ranges of .003 to .006 volt gap on the Hyperion. To check them plug the balancer plug into the adapter and in the balance menu arrow down until you see cell gap listed. Do that for each battery and let us know what you see.

    Gary can you explain what you mean by set the charging amp to 20 amps on the hyperion. IF I wanted to charge 2 QC 6200 batteries on the progressive RC parallel board wouldn't I want to set it up to charge at a lower rate? Are you saying to charge at 20 amps so that each battery is getting 10 amps of charging power?

    I've been running into a situation where I would be charging 2 QC 6200 batteries on the parallel board but it would stop at 16.1 volts. If I hit charge again it would go to 16.7 volts. Not sure if I have something in the menu settings thats not correct.

    Dave I have seen something similar but while trying to charge 4 NanoTech 6000's. Andy and I think there may a thermal limit inside the Hyperion that is causing the shutdown.

    By default the Hyperion is limited to 2C charge rate. So for a FF 9000 or a NT 6.0 that would 18a ad 12a. For parallel usage I changed the max C rate to 3 and then for the individual channels set them to max charge rate. Since I only charge the NT's in pairs they can't get more than 20a or not even a 2C rate when there are two of them. Worst case doing a single one would be a 3.3C rate.

    Gary I"m still a bit fuzzy on this. First question, can the QC 6200's be charged safely at 2C? If I charge 2 6200's on one parallel board would the Hyperion chargere be outputting 12 amps even if I set the individual channel to max current to 20 amps per channel since the max C rate of charger is 2C by default?

    Another question I had was what about power draw to the circuit at the breaker? If you have a 20 amp circuit for example, and nothing else is being used on that circuit other than the chargers how can you figure out how much current the E POWER chargers are drawing? I know it says how much the chargers are outputting but I don't know how much current is being drawn on the electric box circuit to provide the power its outputting. I guess I could always experiment and see if a circuit break trips :eek:

    From the QC site • Charge rate: 5C charging acceptable for the 6200. So the battery isn't an issue. I wouldn't charge them at 5C all the time but two on a parallel board at 20 amps instead of 12.5 amps doesn't seem like much of a risk.

    The input draw of the eFuel is 10amps. (1200w) Check the bottom of the eFuel for input/output specs.

    Andy any other thoughts?

    I think it's just going to be case of experimentation -- if the Hyperion can't hack it, it will reset.
    It says 500 watt x 2, but I'm not surely whether it can truly handle it.

    Would you guys still recommend the parallel boards before I purchase some for my QC8000s. I would probably plan on using 4QCs at 10amps each, 2 batteries per channel, total of 40 amps (max).

    I use the parallel boards to charge my QC6200's and charging 2 QC6200's on one board at a time is all I am comfortable doing. I have 2 Efuel power supplies, 2 Hyperion chargers, and 4 parallel boards.

    I got a question for hyperion users.... I have had a few chargers over the years. Triton etc . When the power went out either from generator overload or power actually out, I had a few mishaps. Since then and for the last two years I have been using two 720i duos and haven't had the power die on me once.
    Question is how do they handle no power while the lipos are attached?

    They seem fine...I had a situation where (ahem...) I moved something and it yanked the AC cord out while I was charging. I just plugged the cord back in and restarted the charging.
