I noticed in the setup that it says to use the satilite unit that comes with the ar 7000s and 8000s

Is it possible to use a AR-600 for the Radians?
How would the wiring setup work out?

    Thanks for any info!
    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike:
Firstly if it's not too much trouble, would you be kind enough to change your user name to your real first name and last name, please? The reasons for this (and how to do do it) are explained here: http://forum.freeflysystems.com/index.php?threads/real-names.497/
Secondly, can you check the manual for the AR-600 please? I tried to download it but spektrumrc.com returned a server error.
The issue is this: What does the AR-600 output? From what I can see it outputs PPM, but I can't tell whether it can also output PWM.
Either way, the Radians can handle that.
If you download the documentation for the Radians from http://freeflysystems.com/products/freefly-radian.php ("Radian Instructions") have a look at the wiring instructions on page 10 (just before Step 2) that show the various options.
    Hope this helps
    Andy.

I downloaded the AR-600 manual and found nothing about PPM or PWM. Was an answer to Mike's question ever found? My attempts to locate one have been, well, fruitless.

    Aloha,
    Jon

I think the servo connectors on the "top" of the Rx have to be PWM otherwise the Rx couldn't drive individual servos.
The satellite socket on the side emits a simple serial output at 115200 baud. (See http://forums.openpilot.org/topic/2399-spektrum-satellite/ Message #12). It's designed to talk to a Spektrum Satellite Receiver, but you could use it to connect to a Radian, I believe. (That's not something I have verified, though.)

I did some Google searching using:
    spektrum satellite protocol

and found this description of the protocol: http://www.cgsy.com.au/archives/215

    Hope this helps
    Andy.

I think the AR-600 is too far down the features line to have the satellite socket. It's completely smooth on all other sides. :) Oh well, I'll just order a GR-12 or something. I have a 3-axis gimbal with Radian, but I'll be controlling the whole thing myself with my MX-20. Can you point me to an existing thread that might detail how to do this properly? I can't seem to find one. Aloha, Andy.... your help is MUCH appreciated. If you ever find yourself in Hawaii, and if my step-daughter isn't back from the Marines, you'll have yourself a free room.

Interesting point Jonathan. I was going by the image at http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPMAR600
That looks like there's a satellite socket.
On the other hand the "manual" at http://www.spektrumrc.com/ProdInfo/Files/SPMAR600-Manual.pdf doesn't make any reference to the Satellite, so I think you're right.

    There's this page: http://www.mikrokopter.de/ucwiki/en/MX-20
I did a search on this forum, but couldn't find anything (Gary posted how to set up the flight timers/MX-20 logging here). The only other place I know that it's covered is on this DVD. The information is accurate, but the guy who did the DVD is a bit dodgy. ;)

    It's a deal!
    Andy.
