Awesome Stuff Josh! Thanks again for sharing , just did a quick run on mine ...Man this thing is not breaking a sweat ..my AUW with the 5D and a 20mm prime was approx 7+ KG running 6s packs and the nominal temperature here is close to 86-95 Deg F...my temp gun reads 35-45 0dd degs C on the ESCs and ALL motors were barely warm to the touch after the flight ..its kinda humid all year round here too, noticeable smoothness on motors after the change to timing/24mhz too. i will be mounting the Epic to see how it will cope with the added weight and to see how far the temps will reach down this neck of the woods. :).

    Hi Josh,

now I have beed reading the whole thread.. awesome !
Was there a particular reason why to choose the CC Ice 50s ? I would like to give it a try with Maytechs 85a Optos and SimonK firmware, but I wonder if there is something special to the CC ESCs.

By the way, did anyone try the T-Motors MN4014-9 ? They look promising, too..

    Regards
    Johannes

    Coptersale,
Can you please change your username to your first and last name? Thanks.

The Maytechs should also work well. I went with the CC's because they are known to be very reliable which I like since I fly around the bigger cameras now.

Ok, done.. did not know this rule about real names.
I will also fly the big cameras... but never heard anything bad about the maytechs. It is all china stuff, isn´t it..

    Brad,
We were just using our 5.8Ghz downlink system. I want to try out the cube or similar but haven't had the chance to yet.

Not sure about the Maytechs but the Castle are easy to program. When I did a little research I saw all sorts of home made programming pin devices including clothes pins and I thought that was pretty strange.

Well, it took a while but after some research it was easy to reflash the Maytechs. They have solder pads for the programming signals. Only thing I would say is a disadvantage: SimonK firmware does not provide any undervoltage or overheat protection.
On the othe hand: when your ESCs shut off because your voltage is too low, probably your flight battery is dead already and you would have crashed anyway..

Gary - where did you get this info? Could you explain what these changes do and why you would make them?

Nick I don't remember but I did change the refresh rate to 500mhz on mine using the instructions from the Abusemark website. I don't think i changed the pulse, at least I don't remember changing that.

Thanks for the quick reply Gary!
Is the converter working well for you?

Yes it is. Trouble free. Did end up setting the compass effect to 0 on the Misc tab. I got a bit of yawing, nothing uncontrollable, but that fixed it. Might be just my setup and getting some noise around the Navi/GPS/SmartOSD stack on the front boom. I also run external wires from the motors to the ESC and they run right under the stack. I'm going to try and lift it up and see if that gets me back to normal.

Howard last I saw over at Kopterworx they still are in the test phase. Nothing for sale. Sure has been a long development cycle. KW is flying an X12 with three of the boards.

Thanks Gary. Yeah they've been testing for a very long time. I wonder if that's due to issues and the never ending FW updates to correct problems? There are a couple members here with the herk III if I can recall. Yeah I saw that 12 rotor beast on KW's facebook page.

    Nick,
The refresh is helps the ESCs and their refresh rates. The I2C interface is faster then the 400mhz refresh so by having the converter update at 500mhz it helps the ESCs get all the information they need. It smoothed out the flight characteristics a lot.
