    Hi All,

Went to setup our brand new Movi Pro yesterday, all was working fine. Left the Movi overnight, came back to smell of smoke. No sign of any visual damage, turned the movi on and one of the batteries was reading 0%. swapped out the battery and saw smoke coming from the battery mount. Seems like a short inside the plate. The battery was full.

    Anybody experience this?

We have a big job coming up soon, the Movi was purchased for it specifically and now cant continue with the prep and sending in for repair would take too long. I'm hesitant to take apart the plate in case it voids warranty.

    Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Yes I had this on day 1 of my Movi Pro use. Something in the middle of the battery plate was glowing red hot and had melted through the plate plastic and started melting the battery plastic with smoke everywhere. Immediately got the whole unit replaced.

Roman: For what it's worth, the MoVI can be operated using just one battery -- not that this is optimal, of course, but if it helps you get through a shoot....

Yes just to reiterate the above we used the movi with one battery for the remainder of that shoot day and it worked like a dream!

    Hi guys

This is not a one off. Had exactly the same probably today. Setting up the camera with DIT, once completed and powered down battery began to smoke. Initially thought it was the battery, tested all gear - fortunately the mini and Teredek were fine.

Tried a second battery, which instantly set on fire. It would appear there's some possible short issues within the battery plate (see images).

Very reluctant to use one battery, especially on an Alta 8, it could have been a lot worse in flight. Or if we weren't stood next to it (the whole van and equipment could have gone).

Please see photos attached and contact me at your earliest convenience. The unit has already been returned once for GPS issues, I'd much rather a straight up replacement than having to deal with shipment back to the US again.

    Hi Alec,

Yeah that's a very serious issue....I had the movi in the sitting room overnight with the whole family asleep upstairs when it happened, could have ended very badly.

Just so you know we contacted freefly and they wanted it back for repairs....would have taken way too long.

We ended up sending it back to Kopterworx and got a replacement unit sent the next day.

If you bought in Europe and you're within 30 days of purchase, don't bother with freefly, simply send back to the vendor as it's a faulty product and either get a refund or replacement. Thats the law.

You got very lucky. Never, ever leave equipment like this with Lipo batteries installed and plugged up while unattended, especially in your house.
