I can't see any information about Movi XL on Freefly's web site. Is this product cancelled? Can someone from Freefly calirfy this?
Not canceled, just delayed due to unexpected popularity of ALTA. Prototypes sitting right next to my desk to remind me to get it to market!
Fantastic! On a side note, sent some info to Alan... would love an M15 pan motor upgrade. The current one is limiting on a drone going fast w/ full camera package - it breaks loose. Others are having same issue, too much wind resistant/inertia for the Pan motor to hold. Hope you guys can get on this too ASAP please
Happened again today At 40+km/hr it fails when camera is 90 degrees to drones movement. We do tons of car commercials & they want 40-60km w/ Ultra Primes & the Movi needs a Pan motor upgrade to deal w/ the inertia & resistance. Hope you guys can work on something ASAP.
Very much looking forward to getting our hands on the XL... Hopefully we'll see a range of improvements from better connectors to stronger motors and slip-rings!??!
Thank god, I am not the only one. I have sent my m15 for verification with this pan issue. A "700$ new motor later" it stills the same limited speed. Please update this stuff, thanks...
We have the same issue and even when trying to use it on a full sized heli. When we go into a turn, however slight, the M15 breaks free and/or loses horizon. Any ideas?
+1 for a pan motor upgrade, it does let us down on occasion especially when we load up the Cooke Anamorphic lenses.
Fly your drone at 12-18m/sec and pan 180 w/ a Weapon/Alexa & Ultra Prime in front of you next client... then you will understand our issue with the pan motor.
I'm constantly flying red's with big lenses on my octo. Flew full speed (50kmh) and can pan just fine. You can make it work. What were your pan hold settings at. Did you use a radio (spektrum or whatever) or did you use the mimic(movi controller). There's ways around eveything with the movi. I would show some footage of me doing those moves while going full speed with my octo but I can't share the footage until the commercial comes out.
If any one here is in need of a heavy duty remote head now and can't wait for the XL you should check out the Newton Head by Intuitive Aerial. it runs about $47k with the controller and batteries. We've used it on a few projects over the last couple of months. It can handle 30 pounds of camera, we've speed tested it to about 75mph, and it's fully wireless or networkable. It works great on cable cams. Check out a video of the Newton in action here https://vimeo.com/162135524 And the best part is, you can actually buy it now! I own the Alta6 (times 2!), M5, M15, Movi Controller, and Wedge so I'm not a Freefly hater, just trying to help out artists looking for an immediate solution! Thanks John. Newton looks good but allowed camera dimensions are a bit limiting. Shotover U1g has 70K$ price tag and integrated HD wireless link range is a bit short (around 200 meters). With 4kg of emtpy weight, U1g can b used on drones as well. Newton is a bit bulky. I think, If Movi M15 would have two times more stronger pan motor, all of problems would be solved.
