    Hi everybody,

I thought about starting a thread to not leave this product so "alone".
From my experience there is a demand for having 5-10 cm longer tubes for the M15 and that's it. There are people who asked if they can put in an Arri Alexa or an Amira in the M15. Amira is possible, but with some limitations. Even a Sony F5 or a Sony FS7 are limited to certain lenses and won't work with the RAW recorder on the back. To overcome these limits it would be enough to extend the tubes on M15. And with the launch of Alexa Mini there is no longer a need for putting in the big Alexa.
From what I've experienced it's already enough weight when the cam+lens combination is about the limit of M15. I don't think you can shoot with something more heavy for more than a minute. Except you hire Arnold :).

To conclude- I don't see a market for this heavy beast, but I see a market for an easy extension for the M15. The guys from DJI Ronin are able to do it - so Freefly jump in !
In Germany the Ronin is very popular due to its low cost and the possibility to extend it if needed - so it would be great to catch up - but not at the cost of this XL product.

    Any comments ?

    Markus,

i think this beast is intended to be a stabilized remote head for cranes and jib arms for production cameras. Never for handheld. And i´m pretty sure if it works as expected, it will surely stir up the market - again - because now a working stabilized head like the Alpha or Scorpio head is 10 times the price….

For extending the arms, i don´t think that is really useful, since you need to extend your arms much further then, in order not to touch the M-15 with your body, which increases the strength needed significantly.

    Best,

    Wolf

I agree with Markus, this is purely aimed at specialist rig type work and I think should be thought of differently to the more traditional MoVI setups. The main benefit by a mile of this XL is to be able to carry an Alexa.....that being said the Alexa Mini has sort of made that need slightly redundant in all honesty. We own pretty much every thing that Freefly have made but this one will be purely a rental item I think :)

I would imagine the XL would compete with a Libra Head.
